The following major projects are now being undertaken by American Friends of Magen David Adom

Expansion of the MDA National Blood Services Center

The MDA National Blood Services Center in Ramat Gan, which was built primarily by AFMDA/ARMDI in 1987, is responsible for supplying 100 percent of the blood requirements of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and 97 percent of the blood needs for Israel’s hospitals and general population.

Today, even though the MDA National Blood Services Center is the most advanced and modern facility in the Middle East, it has become inadequate to service the blood needs of this growing population under constant threat. The three major emigrations from North Africa, the Soviet Union and Ethiopia, combined with the past four years of the Intifada, have created a need for a more sophisticated and speedier production of Israel’s blood resources. New technologies, created in response to the many new diseases and scientific treatments, which had only begun to be discovered when the original center was built, have also created a need for more technology and the personnel to support this state-of-the-art institution, unique to the Middle East. A leadership gift of $4 million dollars has been received through the generosity of the late Mrs. Erna Marx of New York City and Fairfield, CT. Significant naming opportunities will be available for this three to five year, two level project.

Jerusalem MDA Emergency Medical Station

The Jerusalem MDA Emergency Medical Station, the largest in Israel, is located in Romema in a three level building which also houses the Terem Clinic. It serves Hadassah, Shaare Zedek and Bikur Holim hospitals and the largest population in Israel. When completed, this major expansion will also consist of a Donor Center and Museum, underground parking facilities and state-of-the-art technology and equipment, as well as increased space for more vehicles and personnel. An anonymous leadership gift of $1.5 million dollars has been received. There are significant naming opportunities for this three year project.
