Magen David Adom carried out a large-scale drill to sharpen its ability to shift from day-to-day operations to full emergency status. The exercise was led by Director-General Eli Bin and brought together every level of the organization, from national headquarters to field teams across the country.
The drill put personnel through a series of demanding operational scenarios, including missile strikes on populated areas, infrastructure damage, and the activation of national reinforcement systems. Decision-making processes, force management, and headquarters-field coordination were all put to the test, with a particular focus on how quickly and efficiently the organization can shift to emergency mode while maintaining continuous medical service to civilians.
“Training is an inseparable part of keeping this organization sharp,” noted Deputy Director General of Operations Gil Moshkovitz. “Our teams at headquarters and in the field operate in full coordination, and we’re constantly raising the bar on our operational response.”

The breadth of MDA’s operational capacity was on full display. MDA’s operations division led the exercise, with the blood services, immediate response units, helicopter fleet, and logistics teams all having important roles to play. Situation rooms and command centers were fully activated, and MDA stations from across the country were looped in, giving the drill real national scope. The organization’s 38,000 volunteers and employees operate a fleet that includes roughly 1,800 ambulances, 800 emergency motorcycles, 300 first response vehicles, five helicopters, intensive care buses, and rugged Unimog off-road vehicles, purpose-built to reach the hardest terrain.
Drills like this are not a rare occurrence. MDA runs continuous exercises throughout the year, including unannounced surprise drills for districts, dispatch centers, and field crews. The goal is consistent: assess readiness, sharpen operational capability, and ensure that when a real emergency strikes, the response is fast, professional, and coordinated, in close partnership with the IDF, Israel Police, fire and rescue services, local authorities, and other emergency bodies.
“MDA is the national rescue organization of the State of Israel, and as such, works constantly to strengthen the operational readiness of our teams for any scenario,” remarked Bin. “These drills allow us to improve processes, strengthen partnerships, and ensure complete preparedness. MDA maintains full and close cooperation with the IDF and all security and health bodies in Israel, as part of the national framework for protecting civilian lives and ensuring a fast, professional, and lifesaving medical response in any situation.”
